Final of the Modelium Competition 2025
Does Czech construction have a future? The international Modelium competition shows that we certainly have building talent. In the Czech final of this high school contest, SPŠS and OA Kadaň emerged victorious. Advancing to the international superfinal are also SPŠS Brno, SPŠS Ostrava, and SPŠS Hradec Králové. They will compete against four Slovak teams for the overall victory at the City Campus of the University of Ostrava on October 30, 2025.
The international Modelium competition is gaining increasing prestige among young builders. This year, students created models from corrugated cardboard on the theme “National Pavilion for the World Expo.” The Czech final featured schools from Brno, Kadaň, Kolín, Ostrava, Ústí nad Labem, and Hradec Králové. The final models were judged by a professional jury of architects, construction practitioners, and competition partners.
“Students confidently showed that they can combine professional knowledge with vision and the courage to experiment. The upcoming generation is bringing into construction not only energy and ideas, but also the ability to think about architecture in broader contexts, including sustainability, new approaches, and technologies,” said Tomáš Hess, Business Director of the construction group HSF System.
The winning team from SPŠS and OA Kadaň takes home a prize worth CZK 15,000 from the national final. The HSF System Employees’ Award, worth CZK 7,500, went this year to OSŠP Kolín. Advancing to the superfinal are the four best Czech schools: SPŠS and OA Kadaň, SPŠS Brno, SPŠS Ostrava, and SPŠS Hradec Králové.
Together they will form the Czech part of the eight-team starting field, which will be completed by the four winning teams from the Slovak national round. A novelty of this year’s superfinal will be the participation of foreign experts: Japanese architect Yasumasa Hayashi from the ArchTank studio and Stefan Jansch from the Austrian company HSF System AT, part of the international HSF System construction group.
The competition is organized and primarily sponsored by the construction group HSF System. The main partner of the competition is the development group ANTRACIT. Both are part of the investment group PURPOSIA Group, the official partner of the Czech participation at the World Expo 2025 in Ósaka. The product partner is the Czech Association of Corrugated Cardboard Manufacturers.
